NCERD - Fossil

Our Fossil Fuel Unit

The importance of fossil energy resources as a driving force of the economy of any country cannot be over-emphasized.The industrial revolution in Europe and America, for instance was enhanced due to the availability and use of fossil fuels, especially coaland petroleum.

Specifically in Nigeria where the proven reserve of Natural gas (4,497MMTOE), Petroleum (4.635), Coal (2.7*109 Metric Tonnes), Oil shale, Bitument etc are quite sizable, research is an important tool, which could ultimately determine how these fuels are utilized and their over-all importance to the economy.

The centre is involved in coals characterization and publishing pollution status of coals, briquetting technology and has demonstrated every competence in converting Nigeri's friable and none agglutinating coal into compact solid smokeless fuel for domestic use.
