Energy Management and Environment
End use energy consumption is characterised with considerable energy waste
both at residential and commercial and institutional activity levels.
To exacerbate the situation, energy prices have been on the increase on a
yearly basis.
In fact, for some businesses in NIgeria, reducing the energy burden is an
urgent priority if proffits ae to be maintained. Cheeringly, enough costs can be drastically
reduced through better efficiency, made possible by development in energy management
technology.
The unit is dedicated not only to ensuring energy efficiency and management of energy
resources but also in determining cost effectiveness and harmonizing environmental
friendly energy production and utilization.
Specific Activities and Programmes
- Modeling of the Energy consumption pattern of the Nsukka metropolis.
- Implementation of Energy Audit and Energy Management best practices
in the tertiary institutions within the South East, Nigeria.

- Development and evaluation of a thermo-siphon driven
Photo-catalytic reactor for portable water production for
households.

Optimization of the existing passive solar water heating systems
in some hotels in Enugu municipal city.

Strengthening and consolidating of research collaborations with local
and international bodies.

Establishment and upgrading of Energy Efficiency Testing Stove
Laboratory and upgrading of Laboratory Emissions Monitoring System
(LEMS) in collaboration with Energy Commission of Nigeria and the Global
Alliance foe Clean Cook Stoves (GACC), Oregon, USA.

Training of local women on the production and application of energy-saving/clean cook stove.

Testing and certification of customers’ various kinds of clean
stoves in the Stove laboratory, in collaboration with the Standard
Organization of Nigeria (SON).

Capacity Building: Attendance of Short-term training courses.

Planning for Energy training programmes, energy audits, policy, seminars,
workshops, conferences.
