NCERD - Design Unit

THE DESIGN UNIT

The Design & Production/Workshop Unit at the National Centre for Energy Research and Development (NCERD) is primarily responsible for turning research concepts into functional prototypes and supporting engineering and technical operations. Its key functions typically include:

1. Design and Fabrication of Prototypes:

Creating models, components, and systems based on research concepts, especially in renewable energy and energy-efficient technologies.
2. Technical Support for Research Projects:

Providing mechanical, electrical, and fabrication expertise to support ongoing research and development initiatives.
3. Equipment Maintenance and Repairs:

Maintaining and servicing laboratory and workshop equipment to ensure optimal functionality and safety.
4. Production of Research Tools and Parts:

Manufacturing specialized parts, tools, or devices needed for experiments, pilot projects, or field applications.
5. Collaboration with Researchers and Engineers:

Working closely with scientific teams to translate ideas into practical designs and assist with system development.
6. Training and Skill Development:

Offering hands-on training for students, interns, and junior staff in areas such as welding, machining, and equipment handling.
7. Safety and Operational Standards:

Ensuring that all workshop operations follow safety regulations, standard operating procedures, and best practices.
8. Support for Demonstration Projects:

Assisting in the construction, installation, and testing of energy systems for pilot or demonstration purposes (e.g., solar dryers, biogas plants, energy-efficient stoves).
